Peasmarsh

The refurbishment of our Memorial Hall in Peasmarsh has been a major piece of work which has taken the village more than 10 years to achieve. Central to the refurbishments was the opportunity to provide a satellite surgery from the Rye Medical Centre.

The Medical Centre has been fully supportive of this and all was agreed and ready to go as early as February this year– with Care Quality Control approval, when the committee was suddenly told the Practice had to inform NHS England . Everybody thought this was just a formality, but then learnt that NHS England had rejected the project saying “conditions were not satisfactory”.

Rye Medical Centre wishes to challenge this decision and has asked the village to organise a petition which has to be with the Medical Centre by the end of the month.

The Committee needs as many signatures as possible on this petition. You can sign it at Jempsons’ this Friday, or at the hall between 7.00and 8.30 on Friday evening. There will be other opportunities next week. By next week there will also be an online petition available. Check on the hall website to find further details: www.peasmarshmh.org.uk and please try to get as many as possible of your family and friends to sign.

The Committee has available a background briefing paper which shows the long term and strong support for a satellite surgery that consultations in the village over the past ten years have shown. The proposed cuts to our bus service will make this facility even more vital, particularly to our older residents and those who do not drive. For further information call 230205 or 230324.

The Lunch Club will be back on Monday July 28 with an exciting Italian menu. See www.peasmarshmh.org.uk for further details and call Jenny on 230324 to book.

A reminder about the Rock and Roll and Sixties Music Night on Saturday August 16 at the hall, 7.30-10.00pm with music by great local group “Something Else”. Tickets £10 to include fish and chip supper, bring your own drinks and glasses. Tickets from Jan Weston at 20 School Lane or St. Michael’s Hospice Shop in Rye.
