Pensioner hit by a car on crossing is still in hospital

AN ELDERLY woman, who was struck by a car as she used a zebra crossing in Battle, remains in hospital, nearly two weeks after the accident.

The 83-year-old, from Robertsbridge, was left with serious injuries following the accident in the High Street on Friday November 23.

She is believed to have broken a number of ribs, her pelvis and suffered broken bones in both arms and legs.

The woman, who also suffered head injuries, was rushed to Kings College Hospital in London.

This week police said the pensioner was “doing well” and is continuing to receive treatment for serious injuries.

The 70-year-old Battle man, who was driving the grey Peugeot 307 which hit the woman, was uninjured.

Sussex Police said the driver has not been arrested but is helping them with their enquiries.

Acting Sergeant Stacey Elliott, of East Sussex Road Policing Unit, said: “The investigation continues but we would like to thank the members of the public that have made contact with us following our witness appeal. We would urge anyone who may have witnessed the collision, who has not already contacted police to make contact as soon as possible.”
