Seven years on, the dedicated lad has never missed a day of lessons attending right up until the school closed due to lockdown.

A school spokesman added: “It was good news that once schools were allowed to open from June 1 Layton’s year group, (Year 6), were one of the years invited back.

“Needless to say Layton returned to school on this date and has continued with his excellent track record in attending every day.”

Children at the school who achieve a year’s perfect attendance are celebrated with a cinema visit – a trip Layton has joined for the last six years.

The spokesman said: “Unfortunately the school is unable to run this event this year due to Covid 19.

“Since Langley Green Primary opened in 2004, Layton is the first ever pupil to attend every day of their school life, an amazing achievement.

“Layton will be awarded a special certificate this week.”
