Uckfield FM’S Ryan Millns, formerly of Sovereign Radio, said he ‘owes his life’ to the NHS and will be taking on the challenge between 7am on May 8 and 7am on May 9.

Ryan said he suffers from a life-limiting rare auto immune disease called Churg Strauss, which caused him to have a major stroke last year and places him as a high risk person during the pandemic.

The DJ said this left him unable to walk or talk and needing a prolonged stay in hospital for his lifesaving treatment and yet, just four months later, he was back presenting shows.

Because of his increased vulnerability to infection, Ryan is not only isolated from the outside world, but he is also isolated from his own family. His wife is a senior care worker, looking after elderly residents, and poses a risk of infection.

The veteran presenter said, “I am currently in three months isolation due to severe medical conditions - and owe my life to our wonderful NHS. Now is the time to give something back. This money is vital to help the NHS operate through the coronavirus pandemic.

“Thanks to everyone who has donated so far and for your messages of support.”
