Photographer Graham Franks who lives nearby in Rolfe Drive with his wife Barbara, took a photo at about 4pm after his neighbours told him what had happened.

“I often walk for exercise down One O’Clock Lane and we’ve been looking at this tree for some time now,” said Graham, adding that residents had noticed a split down its middle.

“It looked like it was going to collapse at any time and now it has,” he said.

Graham said that One O’Clock Lane is lined by trees and is popular with dog walkers, people exercising and horse riders.

“It was lucky no one was hurt,” he said, adding that the outermost branches of the fallen tree were ‘inches away’ from some people’s property.

Graham is a photographer who has worked for organisations like Chestnut Tree House and Goodwood golf club.
