At the meeting of Pett Parish Council held on Tuesday August 20, among the items discussed was the problem of dogs fouling in the Children’s Play Area on the Recreation Ground and concern was expressed. On a more positive note the Council was advised that the Dance in the Marquee, held on July 27 after Pett Flower Show, had made sufficient profit that £280 was shared between the Village Hall and new Sports Pavilion funds and a £100 donation was given to the Pett Flower Show.

The Stir Crazy Club had a good day on Sunday August 25 at the Pett Level Rescue Boat Open Day, raising £200 from the sale of their craftwork to give to the Rescue Boat.

Church Service on September 1 – Holy Communion, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 9:30am led by David Wotton; Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

On Monday September 2 the Village Choir will meet again at 7:30pm in Pett Methodist Chapel. The Choir is always open to new members, who would be very welcome. The cost is £1.50 per session.

POPP on Tuesday September 3 will feature Brian Howard on his keyboard. The session runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm and will include a two-course lunch for just £5.

Also on Tuesday September 3 there will be an Open Church Council meeting at Pett Village Hall at 7pm. Everyone is welcome and it would be great if village residents could spare the time to attend. Whether or not you are a churchgoer, you may wish to join in the discussion on the life of the Church in Pett, hear about future plans and give your views.

The Mobile Library will be in Pett and Pett Level on Wednesday September 4. It will start at the Church at 10.10am, moving on to Chick Hill at 10:50am and finishing at The Smuggler at 11.20am.

After a month’s break Flicks in the Village will be returning on Thursday September 5 with Les Miserables. This is the feature film adaptation of the beloved global stage sensation seen by more than 60 million people in 42 countries and in 21 languages around the globe and still breaking box-office records everywhere in its 27th year. Helmed by The King’s Speech’s Academy Award -winning director, Tom Hooper, the Working Title/Cameron Mackintosh production stars Hugh Jackman, Oscar winner Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne, Aaron Tveit, Samantha Barks, with Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.

Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misarables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.

If you have never seen the stage show or even if you have, the film is well worth a look. Also if you have seen the film before, why not enjoy it again on the big screen?
