Pirates ahoy at Sedlescombe

IT IS quite rare to see a band of female pirates, but this was exactly what graced the stage for Sedlescombe School’s Key Stage 2 Summer Production, The Pinafore Pirates.

The show, which was performed to two packed audiences at the village hall, told the story of the Islanders of Paragonia, who were regularly invaded by a group of women pirates.

Each time this happened, one of the islanders was taken as a hostage.

A spirited young girl, called Daisy, was determined to put a stop to this and set out to find people to help her.

On her travels she came across a band of fairies and returned with Princess Ida and Iolanthe (the fairy queen) plus a few other Nobel gentlemen to tackle the pirates the next time they arrived in Paragonia.

In the end a sorcerer outwitted the pirates and they turned from their wrongdoings and fell in love with an upstanding bunch of policeman. Once again harmony was restored to the happy desert island.

The main roles were played by children from years 5 and 6 and they were supported by year 3 and 4, who confidently led the singing.
