Bank Holiday Monday and the sun is shining brilliantly. Something feels not quite right! It being the end of May, can I ask if anyone has seen any May Bugs this year? And tomorrow will be the start of Flaming June - interpret that as you like.

Playden Floral Group will have their next meeting on Monday June 3 at 2.15pm in the Playden WI hall.

The Friends of Playden Church held their AGM last Saturday. A dozen valued supporters came. There is no change of officers; funds continue to be collected; membership is slightly up; and subscriptions are now due at the same rate which is a minimum of £5 per person or £10 per household. Many generous members give considerably more than the minimum.

The next event for Friends is the open gardens on the weekend of June 22-23. Start by the Church and the ticket will be a map of the gardens to visit. Tickets will be £5. Teas will be somewhere! The gardens will be open from 1pm to 5 pm.

Keep Saturday July 6 free so that you can come to the Playden School summer fair. This year it will have a Wild West theme.

Playden School will again be taking part in the national Giant Walking Bus on Wednesday June 12. This raises awareness of the dangers of traffic and how good it is to walk.

*An advance date for your diaries - Saturday 20th July. There is to be a Flower festival and Summer fair in Playden Church. All you need to do at present is book the date.

There was to have been a concert from the Iden Singers that day, but it has now been postponed until later in the year.

Rye Festival has two concerts planned for Playden in September.

Playden Parish Council has the next meeting planned for Thursday June 6 at 7.30pm in the WI Hall. It would be nice to have some public support from the village. I have been asked to raise the matter of the speed limits on the road coming from the north. There was a near miss with a pedestrian crossing from the Memorial Hospital and a car speeding over the brow of the hill. If you have a view, come and tell us.
