Playden Village Voice

Although there are some lovely golden colours in the trees, most of the hedges are still showing green. My little schumach tree is colouring up well.

A nice letter came from Mrs. Carter who used to run the nursery on Udimore Road, telling me more about the Saltcote Pippin apple. It is the Apple Festival at Brogdale this weekend, so hopefully I can collect my tree then. Our lane used to be called Saltcote Street and is still shown as such on some of the maps. So it will be good to re-introduce the apple to its original home.

Please remember that the Shoeboxes for the Link Romania appeal must be ready this week. They can be taken to church, or Mrs. Cavilla will collect them from you if you call her on 230 431. The absolute deadline is Sunday 31st October. Playden School is asking if anyone has any off-cuts of wood to help with a project: any shape, any size, but not too big.
