Police aid boxing club

Much-needed new protective headgear will be amongst the equipment Bexhill Boxing Club will be buying as a result of help from the police.

Adam Samms has been training youngsters at Bexhill Amateur Athletic Club for 20 years. The club provides training and a useful diversion for youthful energy.

But when PC Steve Croft of Bexhill Neighbourhood Policing Team got chatting with Adam he soon found that the club was struggling for want of the funds needed to replace ageing equipment.

Steve contacted Sarah O'Shaughnessy, police crime prevention officer for Rother. Sarah submitted a bid for grant aid from Sussex Police under the Police Property Act Fund.

Unclaimed lost or stolen property is auctioned and put into the fund for use in community crime prevention measures, such as aiding youth groups.

PC Croft visited the club and, in the presence of the young boxers, presented Adam with a cheque for 300.
