Working with architects Bailey Partnership, the council submitted an application to its own planning team asking permission to build on the land, in Bewbush.

A decision will be made at a meeting on Monday (February 8).

If approved, the new homes will make up phase two of the development of the playing fields – the first included Waterfall Crescent and Douster Crescent.

The 2.7 hectare site will be split, with 1.9 hectares taken up by housing and the remaining land kept as a playing field.

The Breezehurst Community Pavilion will stay where it is.

The housing will be made up of 18 one-bedroom and 38 two-bedroom flats along with nine two-bedroom, 17 three-bedroom and three four-bedroom houses.

The site was allocated for housing in the Crawley Borough Local Plan 2015.
