Homes on former Haywards Heath storage depot approved

Plans to demolish a former council storage depot in Haywards Heath and replace it with 18 new homes have been approved.

The application, for the Beech Hurst Depot, in Bolnore Road, includes 50 per cent affordable housing and was given a unanimous thumbs-up by members of Mid Sussex District Council’s planning committee.

The plans received more than 30 objections from residents living nearby, with concerns raised about the condition of the road and whether it was wide enough to take two-way traffic.

Questions were asked about whether developer Shanly Homes Limited could provide money to widen the road.

But members were told the road was outside the application site – and contributions already being made by the developer in the form of affordable housing and more than £100,000 towards education in the area, were ‘substantial’.

Officers said they would approach West Sussex County Council, as the highways authority, to look at the problem.

The development will be made up of two one-bedroom flats, four two-bedroom flats, five two-bedroom houses, three three-bedroom houses and four four-bedroom houses.
