Planning application for North Horsham development at ‘advanced stage’

Developer Liberty are bringing approximately 2,500 homes to North Horsham held a housing exhibition in the town centre.

Liberty Property Trust said it could submit an outline application to Horsham District Council by the end of June or early July.

In its response to a consultation on modifications to HDC’s planning framework, which includes around 2,500 homes and a business park north of the A264, Liberty has called the wording of the proposed amendment ‘unsound’.

Liberty’s consultation comment reads: “Using the word ‘around’ is not a ‘sound’ approach to this site, as it is not ‘positively prepared’, nor is it ‘justified’, as the evidence in the Sustainability Appraisal states that it has potential for up to 2,750 homes.

“Liberty Property Trust are in an advanced stage of preparing and submitting an outline planning application for Land North of Horsham, which will be a comprehensive mixed use scheme, which will incorporate up to 2,750 homes, as well as the other elements of the mixed use strategic development, as described in Policy SD1 of the Framework, and as illustrated on the Land North of Horsham Concept Masterplan Map.

“It is the intention of Liberty Property Trust to submit this planning application by the end of June/early July 2015.”

The North Horsham development has proved controversial with Horsham residents since it was first revealed exclusively by the County Times in January 2012. The original plan was for 4,500 homes and a new acute hospital, but this was revised to 2,500 units and a business park in 2013.

According to the consultation response housebuilding would start in 2016/17.
