Horsham district councillors approved extra money from reserves to allow the authority to purchase the site from South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).

The council confirmed the acquisition of the site would help to facilitate the eventual comprehensive redevelopment of the whole of the Hurst Road site between Horsham Hospital and the Pavilions in the Park Leisure Centre.

Potential schemes could incorporate housing, business space and a hotel.

Speaking at a full council meeting on Wednesday February 24, Brian Donnelly (Con, Pulborough and Coldwaltham), cabinet member for finance and assets, said: “We all know Hurst Road has been a project for many many years and acquisition of this site is an important step forward.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for us to develop a very important site in Horsham town.”

From April, ambulances crews reporting to Crawley, East Grinstead, Horley and Horsham will start and finish their shifts at a Make Ready Centre in Northgate, Crawley.
