Poor weather brings visitors galore

Wet and windy weather reduced the number of flowers entered in Felpham and Middleton Horticultural Society's summer show.

The drop in entries in the cut flower section was responsible for the overall reduction in exhibits at the event.

But Saturday's show did benefit from the unseasonal weather because the dull conditions encouraged visitors to pour into the St Mary's Centre to look around.

The adverse weather also failed to deter the vegetable growers among the society's members. Entries in those classes were higher than usual.

Society chairman Rhonda Ball said it was also pleasing to see increased entries in both age groups of the children's classes.

Arts and crafts, photography, cookery and wine classes were represented as well. Floral art entries were down, though the exhibits which were entered made a very colourful and imaginative display.
