Postal workers want to reach public

Postal workers are planning a public awareness event in Devonshire Square on Saturday July 4 from 1-4pm.

The idea is to draw attention to the plans made by the Government to part-privatise the Royal Mail.

Paul Plim from the Bexhill branch of the Communications Workers Union commented: "We will be handing out postcards to be sent to our local Conservative M.P. and leaflets explaining our position.

"It would be great to see as many supportive members of the public as possible."

The CWU will also be recruiting retired postal and telecommunications workers to the union and explaining the vast amount of benefits the union can supply retired members.

The following day, Sunday July 5, a much larger event will take place in Hastings where a giant inflatable letterbox will be on display and postal workers from all around the area will be participating.

Paul added: "It is hoped that Michael Foster the Hastings Labour M.P. will also be supporting us.
