Punch and Judy show draws the crowds at Scout jumble sale

THE first fund-raising jumble sale in a Bexhill scouting group's new hall went down a storm with visitors.

Doors were officially opened to the re-furbished Wainwright Road headquarters of the 9th Bexhill Scouts last year after the building burned down in 2007.

And on Saturday, hundreds of people queued outside the hut for the sale organised by the 29 youngsters and Scout Leader Matt Durkin.

"If you went down there at 11am," said group scout leader Graham Foord, of Tiverton Drive, "there must have been 100 people waiting outside. We weren't supposed to open until 12."

The gang managed to raise 400, and Graham is confident the sale, which featured a Punch and Judy show made and performed by the scouts, has given an important boost to the group's funds.

Tea and refreshments were available, and stalls of clothes, old toys and books crowded the new hall. Lucky dip bags of knick-knacks, sold for 30p, were snapped up.
