Quieter life for residents on the way

Residents and local businesses sat down with local council representatives and the police to reach agreement on improving the quality of life for people living in Southerden Close, Hailsham.

At a meeting held in Hailsham Town Council's offices last week, local businesses agreed to take steps to reduce traffic movement and noise during the early morning and at the end of the working day.

With an increased use of home working by one of the businesses, and another agreeing to look for alternative parking arrangements, the disruption caused by noise, traffic and parking to the residents of Southerden Close is expected to be diminished.

Further reassurances for residents came from East Sussex County Council who have agreed to include Southerden Close in a review of parking in the town; and Sussex Police who will continue to be vigilant in enforcing car parking restrictions.

The meeting was organised by Wealden District Council in the light of residents' concerns that Southerden Close was increasing being affected by the commercial use of one of the town's main business area, just 150 metres away.
