St Marys Salehurst: this weeks service for Mothering Sunday (Lent 4) Sunday March 6th is Family Eucharist at 11am at Salehurst. This service celebrates and remembers all mothers everywhere. There will also be posies of spring flowers for the children to give to their mothers

Each Easter there is a scheme in the parish where you can donate an Easter Lily in memory of a loved one. The lilies are then arranged in church on Easter Sunday. If you are interested in taking part please fill in a form and send to the Churchwardens c/o St Mary’s. These are available from the church or in The Villager Parish Magazine.

The Community Church: worships every Sunday at 10.30am at the Youth Centre Hall. All are welcome to attend and there will be tea and coffee served after the service. This week Rev. Jan Vidler will be leading the service.

The Church holds weekly activities at The Hub in the High Street, next to Boots. New to the week is now a Mother and Toddler group which is on a Wednesday afternoon @ 1.30pm. On a Thursday there is a coffee morning from 9-11.15. A good time for fellowship and a good place to meet up for a chat. Friday mornings is a prayer meeting. All of these are open meetings so everyone is welcome to attend.

The Hub is also a satellite bookshop for Ashburnham Christian bookshop, so if you would like to pop in and have a browse you are more than welcome. Orders can be taken if there is something you would like tom purchase. Gifts are also on sale in support of the Kenward Trust.

Shop local: Don’t forget to use your village suppliers for Mothers Day gifts if you have not already done so. Saturday 5th March there is a spring sale of garden and home products between 10am – 2pm. This is at Meadhurst Farm in Poppinghole Lane. You will be able to purchase shabby chic furniture, cushions, quilts, shopping bags, bird boxes, planters, baskets with flowers, for further information please ring 07917655517.

DARTS: Our last Cup match saw us play at Hawkhurst Legion against Mountfield Club ‘B’ with a 4-3 win in the singles darts with victories for Keith Stone, Dave Goodsell, Michael Stone and Gary Honeysett while there were 100+ scores for Keith[180], Kevin Dixon[140, 4 x 100], Alice Hodges[134,108], Gary[3 x 100], Dave[100] and Michael[100]. We won pushpenny 3-0 with wins for Ted Goldfinch/Keith Stone, Michael Stone/Dave Goodsell and Dave Fortsch/Frankie Taylor. No game tonight.

FOOTBALL: The Bridge 1st team hosted Battle Baptists in the 2nd Round of the Hastings F.A. Intermediate Cup. This was going to be a tough match with The Bridge losing four key players due to work and illness and this showed as the Baptists scored twice before Guy Ballard pulled a goal back on 28 minutes but the visitors scored twice more before the break. The second period saw The Bridge hold their own for some time with man of the match Paul Barnes spreading the ball about from midfield but the Baptists scored again to progress into the semi-final. The Bridge 2nd team played against Division 4 side Conquest United and were in control of the first 20 minutes but failed to score until Sam Edmunds slotted home after 42 minutes. Manager Darren Poole’ inspiring half time team talk found the players responding and controlled the second period with goals from man of the match Dan Goodsell on 65 and 70 minutes. Matt Winchester’ 30 yard free kick found the top corner after 80 minutes and then the goal of the game came from debutant Alex Kingshott whose 25 yard strike sailed into the far corner 2 minutes from the end for a 5-0 victory and a home tie against another Division 4 side Bexhill Rovers in the semi-final.
