ST MARY’S SALEHURST: will be holding Holy Communion in the Mission room on Sunday at 9am and then Sung Eucharist at 11am at Salehurst. During the afternoon of Sunday there will be the third All Age Service at 4pm, this is on for about 40 minutes, which will be followed by coffee and cake. All family and friends are welcome to attend.

The Christmas Market for St Mary’s is next Saturday November 28, which has a new venue this year and is at Robertsbridge Hall. Support is needed for this event to be a success so if you would like to offer any help or make any donations please contact Linda on 01580 819438.

BONFIRE EVENT: Robertsbridge Bonfire Event has now arrived. Tomorrow morning the sound of a mortar will be going off at 7am to signal the arrival of Bonfire Society on the Recreation Ground.

Bonfire Breakfast is available at the Club from 9am to 11.30am, this is a full English and costs £4 for members and £5 for non- members.

During the day please be aware of lots of activity going on in the field and around the village while the extravaganza is put in place. This year is the 25th year so a lot more fire works will be going off during the display. Please if you have animals that do not like the bangs, please put on radios, TV’s anything that is loud to keep the animals from suffering too much. Any animals in the fields, owners please be aware that at approx. 8.30pm there will be a lot of bangs going off so please make sure your animals are safe.

There is a Guy Competition with Judging taking place at 2pm at the Recreation Ground entrance.

At 6pm there will be road closure in place that covers Station Road, the High Street, George Hill, the Clappers and Northbridge Street. This is in place until 10pm. If you usually park in these areas please can you make sure your cars are parked some where differently for these few hours, it is to protect your car and make it safer for the procession. The Procession starts from the Station at approx. 7.15pm with the sound of a maroon going up.

This will follow the route as last year and there is a possibility that the public will not be allowed on the field as it is very wet at time of writing and we are forecast for more rain during the week. So please listen to the marshals and/or keep an eye on the Bonfire Facebook page.

The fire and fire works are at approx 8.30pm. Just a few does and don’t as usual, don’t throw fireworks, it is an offence and could result in being arrested. Please do not touch discarded torches there are torch carts at the rear of procession to pick them up.

There is a disability area at the Cricket Pavilion and is accessible behind the football pavilion. The Red Cross will be on duty if you need First Aid. They will be at the Recreation Ground or speak to a marshal if you need help. Do listen to the advice of marshals, they know what is safe and the areas you can and can’t go, without them we could not hold an event.

It is not too late to volunteer to collect, either phone Sandie on 880977 or go the Robertsbridge Club at 6pm tomorrow evening and sign and pick up a collecting bucket. The more buckets out the better the return for all the Groups in the village.

No liability can be accepted by Robertsbridge Bonfire Society for any injury, loss, damage, and would like to remind all those that attend you do so at your own risk. Please think about your children, do not push buggies to the front and do not put flammable clothing on them and keep safe. Finally have a great night and look after yourselves and each other.

DARTS: We played at Mountfield Club ‘B’ last Friday and won the Single darts 4-3 with wins for Keith Stone, Dave Goodsell, Gary Honeysett and Paul Barham but we lost all the Pairs games. There were 100+ scores for Stuart Miller (140,120,104), Keith (140,100), Gary (3 x 100), Richard Bye (2 x 100), Kevin Dixon (125), Alice Hodges (111), Dave (100) and Michael Stone (100). We won pushpenny 3-2 with victories for Michael Stone, Dave Goodsell and Keith Stone while there were ‘goldwatches’ for Keith (2), Michael and David Fortsch. Tonight we are away to Mountfield Club ‘A’ 8pm.

FOOTBALL: Robertsbridge United 1st team recorded their second win of the season with a 2-0 home victory over Ore Athletic in the Macron East Sussex Football League Premier Division. In an even first half The Bridge broke the deadlock five minutes before the break when Guy Ballard headed home. The second period started well with man of the match Paul Barnes playing a big part in the second goal which saw Phil Green net on the hour mark. The visitors tried to find a goal but The Bridge defence stood firm for all three points. The 2nd team travelled to Sandhurst in Division 5 and the hosts took their revenge on the earlier cup defeat with a 4-1 victory. Poor defending allowed the hosts to score an easy goal after just 10 minutes and two more goals in the last five minutes of the half put the hosts in control. The Bridge manager Darren Poole’s half time talk seemed to have done the trick when just five minutes into the half a Tom Ripley corner was headed home by man of the match Colin Eade but from then on we just could not find another goal while Sandhurst did find the net again on 80 minutes to take all the points to stay top. Tomorrow the 1st team don’t have a game while the 2nd team travel to Icklesham Casuals II KO 2pm.
