Just a reminder that tomorrow, Saturday July 13, is boules and barbecue day with the Twinning Association at Robertsbridge Hall and Grounds between 1pm – 8pm. This is to be combined with a fun day for the children. So why not go along and join in, food, drink fun and games and if the forecast is right it should be good weather. There is a live band playing in the name of `The Exiles`. You can get your tickets from the Post Office or on the gate. Boules can be a lot of fun, f you have not played before this may be your chance.

Sunday July 14 is the Christians Together in Robertsbridge event. Take a picnic along to Robertsbridge Hall between 2pm – 5pm, and hopefully weather permitting it should be a good afternoon in the grounds for this new venture. Links will be made between St Mary’s Church Salehurst, The United Reformed Church other wise known to some as the Chapel, and the Darwell Community.

Stoolball: We played a mixed match against Staplecross last Tuesday at The Clappers. The visitors batted first and completely controlled the match scoring freely and setting a target of 169. Our bowling and fielding was not our best as Alan (117 not out) and Carolyn (42 not out) picked their spot to hit the ball to all parts of the ground to reach their score of the 10 overs. We needed to score at 17 an over to have a chance but we never got near that as the visitors bowled straight and fielded well. The only players to reach double figures for us were Sarah Clark (26 retired), Richard Apps(26 retired) and Ian Kitson (10) as we fell 81 short of the target. The Mixed played at Pett on Thursday and the hosts batted first and reached 158-3 in their 11 overs with wickets for JJ Boast (1-24), Ben Moss (1-13) and Claire Hatter (1-14). In reply we did not bat well with only Melinda Mackay(23) reaching double figures in what can only be described as suicide batting as we reached 66 all out. With an average age of just 23 our very young side were not strong enough for the more experienced sides at Icklesham Ladies Tournament last Sunday. We played Pett first and lost by 32 runs despite an excellent innings of 18 by Izzy Le Pla in a total of 38 while the only wicket was a caught and bowled by Izzy. Next was Hooe who got to 62-1 with JJ Boast taking a catch from Sophie Turner’ bowling and in reply we hit 42 with Sophie(14) and Abigail Fifield(12) our top scorers. Our next match was against the eventual winners Brightling who amassed 84 while in reply Di Kitson (13 not out) and Sarah Clark(13 not out ) took us to 31. The final match against the hosts saw them reach 75 while we replied with 55 thanks to an unbeaten 30 by Sarah. This Sunday is Civil Service Mixed Tournament at The Polegrove, Bexhill starting at 10.30a.m. while on Tuesday 16th the Mixed are away to Scorpions at Claverham College, Battle and on Thursday 18th the Ladies are at home to Hooe with both games starting at 7pm.
