Robertsbridge Village Voice

n This weekend should have been the Bonfire Society Dinner Dance, but due to lack of numbers it has been cancelled. This may be a sign of the economic down turn or just apathy.

n This year the AGM is to be held on Friday March 30 at Robertsbridge Club and there is a need for new committee members to take up the role of running, the up until now very successful bonfire society. Many of the founder members have either taken a back seat or retired from their posts and new blood is needed. Application forms for the positions are available from the Floral Boutique or by emailing [email protected]. To continue with the fantastic night that majority of village people love and the revenue it brings to the village help is needed now, chairman, secretary, health and safety and various captains of jobs that need to be done are available. If you are interested please act now your bonfire needs you.

n Friday February 24 is the Prize Bingo Night at Robertsbridge Hall starting at 7pm. This event is raising funds for the Early Births Fund. Many of us know of someone who has had a very premature baby, and without fundraising for research etc, outcomes would be very different. This is a fun way to help raise money and again shows the support from the village with many of the prizes that have been donated.

n Saturday February 25 is the Champagne and Roses Dinner being run by Robertsbridge Twinning Association at Hurst Green Village Hall. Tickets cost £25 per head, to check for further details and availability please contact [email protected]

n Just something that probably hasn’t been thought about. Since the work on the bridge has been taking place, and the bad weather too, some of the High Street shops have been seeing a downturn in trade. Please try and use our village shops, as it is vital they have our support. There is still two hour free parking in the car park, or one hour in the High Street. We need to use or we lose.

n One for the diary next month, on Wednesday March 21 the Tea Dance Party at Robertsbridge Club will be resuming. This starts at 2pm until 4.30pm and costs £3.50 for dancing, tea, cake and a raffle. A nice relaxed way to spend the afternoon, just everything in moderation, unless it’s chatting of course!

n Football: Both matches were called off because of frozen pitches. Tomorrow the first team are away to Peche Hill Select at Tilekiln while the second team are at home to Division Six champions Eastbourne Rangers with both matches kicking off at 2pm. Tomorrow( Saturday) we are holding a Quiz Night at Robertsbridge Club at 7.30pm. Fundraising dates for your diary: Saturday March 3, Karaoke and Curry Night £3, Saturday March 10, Poker Night, Saturday April 14 Live Band ‘Peak Output’, members £2 guests £3. All these events are at Robertsbridge Club.
