Roffey eyesore due to be demolished Friday

A derelict Roffey eyesore is set to be demolished today (Friday May 24).

The Guinness Trust site on the corner of Crawley Road and Littlehaven Lane received planning permission for renovation of the site, but it admitted the scheme may have stalled due to a lack of Government funding in January.

At a North Horsham Parish Council meeting on Thursday night the parish clerk said they had been told by Horsham District Council that work to demolish the derelict buildings would commence today.

The parish agreed to submit a statement of intent to HDC that they would like to produce a Neighbourhood Plan, something that the district council is encouraging parishes to start producing.

It also agreed to terminate a maintenance contract worth nearly £1,000 a year to look after 27 streetlights in the parish, and purchase a counterbalance to lower the hinged columns.

The Frog and Nightgown pub in Faygate, which closed down earlier this year due to the death of its owner, was nominated as an asset of community value.
