When they check-out, the hotel asks its guests to add a £1 donation onto their bills to one of two local charities on offer. In addition, the George is matching any donation with a further £1, and so doubling the proceeds available.

Operations Manager, James Blom, reports “our guests love the idea of this - few have turned down the opportunity seeing it as a great way to give something back to the local area they have come to visit. They also like the way the George is prepared to match their donation.”

“The charities selected going forward will be those located in Rye and the immediate local area. To date, two charities have benefitted from donations over the last two months, namely The Rye Memorial Hospital and The Oliver Curd Trust, both of which have received over £1,000 each.”

The hotel is currently collecting for Kent & Sussex Air Ambulance and ARRCC .

James added: “We are open to approaches from local registered charities for our support. As one of Rye’s bigger businesses, we want to give something back to the local community.

“We are also actively looking to employ staff who live locally and would encourage all those who want to develop a career in hotels or restaurants to approach us, or email [email protected].”
