School leaps putsyoungsters at risk

Reckless youths have been warned they are risking their lives by jumping off buildings around Bognor Regis.

There have been several reports to the police of the youngsters spending part of their summer holiday climbing on to the roofs of Michael Ayres Junior School in South Way and leaping to the ground.

The school is about two storeys high in some places. It is lower in others.

Police have also been told youths have been jumping from the Fitzleet multi-storey car park, above Morrisons, on to the vehicles and damaging them.

Similar incidents have been happening around Littlehampton just a few years after a youth was seriously injured falling from the roof of the town's community school.

Police sergeant Sharon Parker said: "We urge young people to resist taking part in such activities before someone gets seriously hurt.

"So far, there have been no reports of any injuries occurring.

"But the potential for this is considerable and the youths are taking their lives in their hands."
