Sea Scouts earn haul ofawards at annual event

The presentations for each section of the group came after the formal part of the evening for 2nd Bognor Sea Scout Group.

The Scout of the Year accolade was presented to Peter Robins and Steven Wells received the Cub of the Year award.

Lawrence Liddy was selected for the Beaver Award but, unfortunately, was unable to attend the evening held at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Glamis Street recently.

Gifts were presented to the group’s treasurer, April Hanks, and to a long-standing young leader Dean Luckham, who is planning to attend university this autumn, as a mark of appreciation for their hard work and regular support for the group.

Sue Farrant, the Group Scout Leader, presented her Hiker’s Award to Lyra Halfpenny-Steel and Grace Embleton.

She said: “They attended a group family hike in Eartham Woods on May 4 where they completed 7.5 miles which was a fantastic achievement for seven years old. This hike was well attended with 26 youngsters, leaders and helpers who enjoyed the walk through the beautiful woods and National Trust land 
near Eartham.”

The group put in a new geocache called 90 Years of Bognor to Bignor as part of its anniversary celebrations.

A geocache is buried to be found using a GPS device, or similar mobile receiver, before being replaced.

Mrs Farrant thanked the many volunteers – from uniformed leaders to parent helpers – for their time spent providing such a wide range of activities and opportunities for all the 
young people. The evening was well attended by Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, parents and various guests.
