This evening, Friday 22 October Sedlescombe Societies’ Association will be holding their annual general meeting at the village hall.

Everyone is welcome to attend at 8pm for this event when there will be a full report on the village fair held on the sports field in July.

Groups and projects around the village who have put forward a request for an award of funds will be considered and decided upon at the meeting.

The annual Friends of Sedlescombe Church Heritage Trust jumble sale will take place tomorrow, Saturday 23 October.

Doors will be open to the public from 2pm. Donations of jumble would be most welcome and can be brought to the village hall from 10am onwards on the day of the sale.

Please do not deposit anything before this time as there are no storage facilities available and we would also like to thank you in person for helping the charity. For further information on this event please call 01424 870722 or 01580 830813.

There is reference on the internet to a jumble sale that took place in 1896 in New Zealand, so our mothers, grandmothers and great grandmothers certainly knew a thing or two about recycling, which they had most certainly taken as an idea from Britain around the British Empire.

There really seems there is nothing that new in the world.

You may be aware that the village sign has been removed from its usual position hanging from the post on the Green.

Using money received as a Quality Council grant and prize money remaining from the 2009 Village of the Year Award, a new village sign is being manufactured.

The Council has decided to retain the well-known design which was first used in Sedlescombe more than fifty years ago.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Quiz night last Friday, nine teams took part in the evening and a good time was had by all, especially the winning team.

We are grateful to the quiz masters, Ralph Dellow and Reg Glew, their helpers, Pauline, Jean and Yvette for providing the quiz.

Also to Jane and Jeremy from Carpenters Barn farm for donating the jacket potatoes for the hot supper, Mike Davies for running the wine bar, his wife Shirley and Shirley Stevens for their help in the kitchen.

The event raised in the region of £450 towards Friends of Sedlescombe Church Heritage Trust funds. If you would like to learn more about this organisation, their AGM is scheduled for the evening of Monday 15 November, further details to follow.
