The award, which is given to schools who have demonstrated excellence in developing the Christian Character of the school, was given to Shipley Church of England Primary on Friday (December 6).

Headteacher Mrs Bull said:” The children decided that they needed somewhere to be still when the day was so busy and so we worked together to make their garden.

“We have had a lot of help from staff, family and friends to make our garden a place that really makes a difference.

“We have prayer flags that we renew each year and can just about fit our whole school in here for times when we want to be together in our beautiful grounds,” she continued.

“The greatest benefit is that our children now use it independently when they want to be still or want to have time to think. It has really empowered them to be able to take time to reflect on their day and to help one another when they are in need.”

Bishop David Farrer from Arundel presented the children with the award in their peace garden.
