SIDLEY MAN JAILED FOR KNIFE ATTACK

A Sidley man who carried out a knife attack on his wife's former partner has been jailed for eight years.

Alexander Wicks, 45, plunged a knife into his "worst enemy" Michael Leeman, of Hastings, after the victim turned up drunk at his home one evening.

The court heard the pair had a "long-standing animosity" after Leeman's partner Lorraine left him and married Wicks, taking their four-year-old child.

During a week-long trial Wicks, from Sidley, denied he was responsible for the knife attack which almost killed Mr Leeman, of Tackleway.

The victim was left fighting for life, spent three months in hospital and

needed a string of operations.

The jury cleared Wicks of attempted murder but convicted him of the lesser

charge of inflicted grievous bodily harm. Judge Anthony Scott-Gall jailed him for eight years.
