PCSO Lucy Paffett, from Hastings Police Station, said: “The main damage has been caused by smoke and fortunately no one has been injured. We have been making extensive enquiries but we need witnesses to come forward.”

Barry Lovell, waste and street scene officer for Hastings Borough Council, said: “These acts of mindless vandalism are not only costly, but render the facilities useless to the residents of Hastings and our visitors.

“We are working with Sussex Police to identify these offenders and would appeal for anyone with information to contact Sussex Police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.”
