‘Special’ Remembrance Sunday service in Crowhurst

Rev Michael Brydon lead the service at St George’s Church with the church at capacity on Sunday (November 8).

Six wreaths were laid on behalf of the Crowhurst branch of the Royal British Legion, Crowhurst Cubs, Scouts, Brownies, Royal Sussex Regiment and Western Front Association.

The Last Post and Reveille were played by trumpeter Paul Eshelby, who also accompanied the organ for the hymns.

“I think it was fuller than ever on Sunday with 40 plus children and 120 adults,” he said.

“That made it very special as we have someone who can play the trumpet and The Last Post.

“We read out all the names on the war memorial and the comment on how amazing the children were this year in paying respect.”

One of the stained glass windows at St George’s was smashed last week.

Mr Brydon said he had been given an estimate on fixing the window of more than £6,000.

He said a few people have offered to raise money for its replacement and was ‘overwhelmed’ with the village’s generosity.

“I’m really overwhelmed by the sympathy and support from the villagers,” he said.

“Some mums from Crowhurst school are going to organise a cake sale and the cub scouts are going to do a sponsored walk.

“It’s very nice to have that level of support which is a demonstration of what a kind and generous place Crowhurst can be.”
