Squadronaires wing RAFA to appeal success

THE concert by the RAF Squadronaires was a major factor in this year's record Wings Appeal success by Bexhill's RAFA branch, final figures reveal.

Of the 12,680.07 raised for Wings Appeal by the branch this year 3,248.91 was from the concert, despite the high cost of staging it, says branch president Ken Igglesden.

It was the largest single item.

The weekly draw at RAFA's Albatross Club headquarters raised 1,798.34. The Wings Appeal collection outside of Sainsbury's store in September raised 1,400.42 and the street collection 1,374.60.

Other fund-raisin efforts included the Christmas and Easter fairs, a collection outside Tesco's and special events.

The president said this week: "We finished the year more tan 1,100 up on last year.

"Things went down generally very well altogether.

"But the band was the thing - we made over 3,000 on the band, which was marvellous, especially considering how much it cost to put it on.

"I would like to thank the people of Bexhill for the terrific support they have given us again this year."
