FLOWER CLUB: Peacehaven and Telscombe Flower Club meet on the third Wednesday of each month, 2pm for 2.30pm start at the Civic Centre with floral demonstrations. Chairman 01273 586191, treasurer 01273 581341.

FITNESS PILATES: Every Monday 9.30am to 10.30am and Thursday 7.30pm to 8.30pm in the Civic Centre. Get fit, tone up, prevent back pain, improve flexibility and posture. COUNCIL MEETINGS: Grants (sub-com) meet on Monday at 6.45pm. Policy and Resources meet on Monday at 7.30pm. If there is insufficient business, meetings may be cancelled. Please therefore telephone the Civic Centre on 01273 589777 to ensure that the meeting is being held. Meetings are open to members of the public who are able to ask questions for a 15 minute period at the start of each meeting. Meetings are held in Telscombe Civic Centre, 360 South Coast Road, Telscombe Cliffs unless otherwise stated.

FOOTNOTES: To Pevensey to take part in an exhibition of paintings and arts and crafts organised by that worthwhile charity St Wilfrid’s Hospice. The father of a friend of mine was cared for by them in his final days, and I will never forget the kindness extended to us when we visited. So, when they asked me to help them out for this occasion, I was more than happy to agree. Pevensey is rather lovely, although it reminds me of Telscombe and Peacehaven in the sixties. I didn’t live here then of course, but I was appearing at the Theatre Royal in Brighton for a fortnight, had arrived late and the nearest digs were in Peacehaven. The whole place then had a pioneering feel about it. Somewhat different today. The day was made complete for me at the exhibition, by an elderly lady coming up to me to tell me how much she had enjoyed a performance in London’s West End I had given some forty five years ago. I had to tell her I was more than impressed with her memory. Home to the sun and the garden and the remains of the plums on the tree, the neighbours having had their fill as well.
