Terror as masked man attacks Angmering family home

A TERRIFIED family fled their home after a masked man used a sledgehammer to smash up their car and threw stones through windows.

Police say the single mum and her three children aged two, six and eight were innocent victims of the sinister attack, in Meadowside, Angmering, on Monday night.

It followed a drive-by shooting at the same address less than a year ago, in November last year, when a ground floor window was smashed by a shotgun or pellet gun.

No one was injured in Monday’s frightening incident, shortly before 8pm, but a stone which shattered a first floor rear window narrowly missed the six-year-old boy who was in his bedroom at the time.

The mum had gone to look through the rear window of the house after hearing a noise in the garden, and saw a masked man, who waved at her. He then threw the stone through the bedroom window, before smashing other windows downstairs.

Moments later he was seen smashing the family’s car windows with a sledgehammer, before leaving in a car, believed to be a silver Audi, which was waiting nearby and was driven by another man.

Police immediately went to the scene and searched the area and mounted a guard on the modern terraced house overnight.

The family, who had been living at Meadowside since March, moved out and have since been rehoused by Arun District Council.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said the family appeared to be completely innocent victims. The incident is being treated as criminal damage.
