The leaning lamp

THE historic lamp standard which stood at the bottom of Keere Street, Lewes, until demolished by a delivery van, has been replaced by a modern street light.

But the new lamp-post already seems to be sympathising with its predecessor by struggling to maintain a vertical position.

Local resident Mr Michael Barnard drew the attention of the Express to the lamp-posts pronounced lean.

'My thoughts turned to the Leaning Tower of Pisa', commented Mr Barnard, 'and I wondered whether our new lamp standard would ever become a similar focus of attention probably not, but the Leaning Lamp of Lewes has a certain alliterative charm.'
