Tidy day clears Haywards Heath rubbish

Bentswood Tidy Up Day at Western Road Industrial Estate by loading cleared unwanted items into vans.

The day was organised by the Bentswood Community Partnership in collaboration with Mid Sussex (South) Council for Voluntary Service who obtained funding from Mid Sussex District Council.

One Bentswood resident, Yvonne Munn, said: “Now that the rubbish has gone, I have a garden that my grandson can play out in safety. Thank you”

At 9.30am two large freighters arrived at Western Road and from 10:00am onwards there was a steady stream of people arriving to dispose of fridges, freezers, bedding, discarded broken toys, bikes and wood.

Some drove, others were more enterprising as one couple arrived with a large freezer on a wheelbarrow.

By the end of the morning both freighters were full.

It is hoped this will become a regular event in Bentswood.

Ruwach Church provided refreshments and the use of their land for the Tidy Up Day, whilst a local landscaper, Neil Henry, donated his truck so that items of rubbish could be collected from residents who were unable to get to the Western Road site.
