Till we meet again...

GREAT grandmother Jean Stocker has served her last customer after nearly half a century behind shop counters in Steyning.

Jean, 78, retired on Friday after working at Somerfield, in Steyning High Street, for the last 13 years. She was presented with a basket of flowers and a card by her colleagues at the store.

Jean had previously worked at the town's newsagent, where she had spent more than three decades serving Steyning's public.

She said she would have no trouble filling her time: "I have got grandchildren and great- grandchildren to go and visit, and I have got a lovely garden to tend to when the weather gets better '” and my bingo, of course."

Last week, Jean was given a host of presents by customers young and old, many of whom she has seen grow up.

She said: "I have had lots of presents. I will miss the people. That is what I have enjoyed the most."

Jean added she would still be out and about in the town, where she has lived since England won the football World Cup, in 1966.
