Tin Appeal generosity

TINS of food and drink have been pouring in to the Observer's Give a Little Tin Appeal this year. Certainly Nicky from Newspaper Sales looks deluged!

The campaign encouraged shoppers to spread some happiness this Christmas by buying an extra tin of meat, fish, fruit, soup, vegetables, or coffee and tea. When they donated an item to a Tin Appeal box, they were helping brighten someone's festivities.

The generosity of local people was clear by the brimming collection points in supermarkets and the Observer offices.

Local charities will benefit from the food and drink supplies: Surviving Christmas, Age Concern, Youth Accommodation Support Project, St Jude's and Turner House.

From all of us at the Observer, a big thank-you to everyone concerned.
