Tony brings torch back to old school

Tony carried the Torch aloft for 300 metres in Bexhill as part of last week’s Relay.

Then he delighted pupils at Peasmarsh Primary School by taking it in to show them.

Mr Curd was nominated as a torch bearer by Uk Power Network and for his relentless fundraising for the Poppy Appeal and the Oliver Curd Trust. 

He used to go to Peasmarsh School over 60 years ago and now his grandchildren are the 5th generation of Curds to follow the tradition.

It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to hold the torch and ask lots of questions it was also a great way to end such a successful year at Peasmarsh School.

You can see Tony’s Torch on display at local superstore Jempsons from 12pm – 2pm on Saturday and have a chat with the man himself.

Tony’s family established the Oliver Curd Trust which has raised more than £100,000 to help support other families that have been affected by cancer after his grandson, who also went to Peasmarsh Primary, had sadly lost his long fight against a rare bone cancer in 2007, aged just nine.

The Trust has provided a holiday home at Crowhurst to provide respite breaks for families caring for seriously ill children.

In addition to his work for the Trust, Tony also sells poppies for the Peasmarsh division of the Royal British Legion.
