Network Rail, which is carrying out upgrade and maintenance work on a bridge to the south west of Pulborough station, is warning travellers that this will delay their journey by anything up to an hour.

A Network Rail representative said: “The work on the Arun Valley line centres around a bridge over the river near Pulborough station.

“It’s a wrought-iron bridge, with the track fixed to wooden beams where they cross the river.

“We will be replacing these old timbers with their modern, steel equivalents, to strengthen the bridge and extend its life.

“In addition we will be putting up guardrails to protect railway staff when they have to walk across the bridge, and putting a protective coating on the structure.

“As a result, buses will be in use to replace trains from Horsham to Arundel over the Easter holidays, potentially adding up to an hour onto journey times.

“We realise this will disrupt people’s journeys and we appreciate their patience while we do this important work.”
