Ukes in festival concert

THE Adur Festival celebrated its 18th birthday last week with an explosive concert by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain at the Worthing Dome cinema.

The "Ukes", who appeared last week on ITV's "This Morning", have made many appearances at the festival over the years.

The group is also releasing its first national single on Monday, January 31, a stunning cover of Miss Dynamitee.

Founder member George Hinchliffe told the Herald: "We had to cover Ms Dynamitee's track. She'd written an instant classic with contemporary sensibility and good musical basis. It was crying out for a Ukulele re-interpretation."

The single on Longman Records was recorded in Shoreham by local guitarist Richard Durrant.

The B-side is a highly individual cover of Carole King's "Natural Woman".

Mr Durrant said: "Like all the orchestra's best performances, it'll make you laugh and cry at the same time, without having a clue why."

The "Ukes" were recently on Jools Holland's New Year's Eve show and their celebrity fans include Daniel Bedingfield and the Littlehampton-based group Delirious?.
