Welcome for roadshow

THE A27 Action Group has welcomed news that the Highways Agency is to hold an exhibition on its road plans in Lewes.

Said Alan Chapman, chairman of the pressure group: 'It will provide an opportunity for Lewes people to find out what, if anything, they stand to gain from 16 million spent on a massive flyover across the railway at Beddingham.

The exhibition takes place at Lewes Town Hall from 5pm to 9pm next Friday and on January 18 from 10pm to 3pm.

Plans also include a dual-carriageway between Southerham and Beddingham roundabouts and work on the roundabouts themselves.

'These plans are sited within the boundary of the proposed national park,' added Mr Chapman.

'It is essential that any work must be evidence-based and with a minimum of impact on this very sensitive environment.

The Action Group is calling for a proper examination of the safety claims at the crossing and of the options available to address them including speed restrictions near the barrier and enforcement cameras to ensure that drivers obey the law, backed by a rigorous policy of prosecution.
