You are reminded that your WCA Westfield Draw subscription is due for renewal this month. This is a monthly lottery organised to raise funds for the WCA. The draw takes place at the end of each month, with cash prizes. Membership is £10, which you can leave with your details in an envelope at Westfield News either as cash or a cheque payable to WCA. See the WCA Newsletter for further details, including direct e-transfer. Renewals will also be collected at the fete, and new members are welcome.

The next Friendship Club meeting which is on Monday, July 22 from 2pm to 3.30pm in the Parish Hall. The yearly subscription is £5 with 10p per meeting, and new members will be made very welcome. The Friendship Club does not meet at Whitsun and August bank holidays. Therefore their future dates for your calendar are, September 16 and 30; October 14 and 29; November 11 and 25; December 9.

If you can help Westfield Football Club in any way please contact the club. They are presently putting things in place to ensure both local football opportunities at all levels & for all ages with the 1st team playing in Senior Football. Therefore if you would like to offer one off or ongoing support, both on and off the pitch, before during or after games please get in touch with the Secretary on [email protected]

Westfield Golf Fellowship. The Ryder Cup style challenge between The Hare and Hounds Golf Society and WGF took place at Hemsted Forest on Friday July 5. On a beautiful afternoon Westfield won with 188 points to the Hare and Hounds 166. The next open event is on July 22 – The Captains Bucket – at Seddlescombe GC. This is a pay your own green fee &andput £5 in the captain’s bucket – winner takes all. For more information please contact [email protected]

The Youth Club offers a great time. It runs on Wednesdays from 6.30-8pm. You need to be a member, so contact Dan 07899917952 to register.

Westfield Beavers are now full and taking names for a waiting list.

Sainsbury’s vouchers for Westfield School can be dropped into Westfield Newsagents where Richard & Dan will happily collect them from you.

The Westfield HUB meets at The Plough on Fridays from 10am to 12noon. A warm and friendly welcome and a decent cup of tea/coffee are assured at the Hub every Friday morning between 10am and 12noon.

Rye and District (including Westfield) Lions. The Lions will be organising their 34th Annual Raft Race and Fete on Sunday August 25, with the Fete opening at midday and the Raft Race at 2.30pm. Entries for rafts are still coming in and if any organisation, pub, business or family wish to enter a raft they should contact Bob Harvey on 01424 751059. Stall space is filling fast and anyone that requires space for a stall should contact Reg Emson on 01797 224174.

Also, to raise funds for Rye and District Community Transport, Rye and District Lions are holding a fund-raising event this Saturday, the 13th July. This will be a coffee morning and afternoon tea in the garden of 11 High Street, Rye, next to Adams, by kind permission of Rae Festing. Admission is free and it takes place in this beautiful hidden garden in Rye from 10.30am until 4.30pm. In addition to the coffee and tea, there will also be light lunches and books, cakes, produce, plants and nearly new clothing for sale. There will also be a grand raffle. Over the last three years Rye Lions have already donated a total of £2,000 to Rye Community Transport.

Rye and District Association of the National Trust. Saturday July 13 – Traditional Afternoon Tea & Competition. Enjoy a traditional afternoon tea at Powdermills Hotel, Battle (sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, jam, cakes, tea or coffee) with waitress service in The Orangery. There will also be a prize for the best hat! The hotel has lovely grounds, which should look wonderful in July, so this will provide an ideal opportunity for a leisurely stroll after tea. Price: £13.50 per person.

Dr Douglas Moss of Northiam has a forthcoming photographic exhibition which is to be held in Rye. The subject of this exhibition is The Treasures of 14 Romney Marsh Churches.
