Where do we build (a fraction of) 24,000 homes we need? Your backyard?

Brighton and Hove City Council, its officers and consultants, have been required to identify sites on the urban fringe that have potential - in part, at least - for building homes in the medium to long term.

Inclusion in the list does not mean that homes will definitely be built on the sites. It means homes could be built on them.

Council officers believe the 39 sites have potential for up to 1,180 homes; the sites cover 31 hectares - or just 7.5% of the total area of the urban fringe.

Even if all 39 sites were included in the City Plan, it is not known if it will be sufficient to satisfy the independent planning inspector, working within the government's strict National Planning Policy Framework.
