DANTE’S INFERNO: A reminder that the literary society is meeting this evening (Friday) at 7pm for 7.30pm in the Court Hall. Patricia Erskine-Hill will be giving the talk which is entitled: Dante’s Divine Comedy in English and non-members are welcome. The Divine Comedy is a 14th century epic poem of Italian literature with Dante describing his imaginative journey through inferno (hell) purgatory and Heaven and is a mixture of Bible truths, along with mythology, medieval tradition and fantastic imagery.

TO LISTEN AND CARE: Tomorrow, Saturday, morning at 10am for 10.30am the Methodist Chapel is hosting a talk given by Martin West on Street and Prayer Pastors. All are welcome to come and hear about the work done by Martin and his team of Street Pastors in Hastings town centre. Their watchword is not to preach but simply to Listen, Care and Help and since their launch in 2010 they have helped to make a positive difference to the lives of many people in the area and this has been a humbling process for the Street Pastors.

AGINCOURT 1415: Dr Anne Curry will be giving a lecture on Agincourt 1415 tomorrow, Saturday, at 3pm till 4pm in St Thomas’ Church. Winchelsea Archaeological Society is hosting the talk and the cost is £4 for non-members. Professor Anne Curry is the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities at Southampton University and is an expert on the Battle of Agincourt. Her books include Great Battles. Agincourt, Agincourt: A New History and The Hundred Years, War 1337-1453, as well as an e-book version of The Battle of Agincourt.

QUESTION TIME: The Garden Society’s annual Gardeners’ Question Time will take place on Thursday evening, November 26, at 7pm for 7.30pm in the Lower Court Hall. Local garden experts Mattie Holmes, Gilly Tugman, Chris Mears and Robert Holland are the panellists and will be answering the questions on the day. Don’t forget to bring your questions along but some questions to Howard Norton (chairman) in advance would also be very helpful.

TRAVELLING CRIB: During the days after Advent and leading up to Christmas Eve the Travelling Crib which consists of the Nativity figures Mary and Joseph will be making its way round homes in Icklesham and Winchelsea. This popular annual event requires offers of shelter and accommodation to the Travelling Crib for a night so if you would like to be involved please put your name against your chosen date on the list at the back of the Church. A schedule will be promulgated once all the offers are in.

NO ACADEMY: The proposal to convert St Thomas’ Primary School to an academy has recently been quashed. A letter from Martin Lloyd, Chief Executive Officer at the Diocese of Chichester Academy Trust, explained that after much consideration by an independent consultant it was decided that to go ahead with the plan of joining with Northiam and Peasmarsh Schools would not be viable and therefore will not happen. St Thomas’ School will remain a Church of England Primary School supported by the diocese as well as continuing to enjoy working in cooperation with the Department for Education an East Sussex County Council. The high quality education that the children receive will carry on as before. Author Ian Johnstone who wrote a set of three imaginative books entitled, The Mirror Chronicles, will be visiting schools to hold writing workshops and he is booked to come to St Thomas’ in December to work with the top two classes Castle and Mariteau and the children are really looking forward to this event.

FRESHWATER FISH: The Friends’ of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve are continuing their Winter Talk series with a lecture on Freshwater Fish of Britain. This is open to all and you will need to meet at the Community Hall tomorrow, Saturday, at 2.30pm. There is no admission cost but donations would be appreciated. Over 50 species of fish swim below our water, but the question is how many can you name? Jack Perks will be talking about many of them, and showing some of his spectacular underwater photography.

PCC MEETING: Taking place at St Richard’s Church for 7pm the Parochial Church Council will meet on Friday November 27 for its busiest meeting. It will approve the 2016 budget, agree the charities for the last Sunday in the month collections and plan for the Christmas services. If there are any matters you would like discussed please let the secretary or a member of the PCC know and their names are listed in the church entrance.

TABLE SALE: The WBCA has arranged a Pre-Christmas Table Sale for Sunday November 29 at 11am till 2pm in the Community Hall. Should you wish to book a table the number to contact is 01797 224820. Entry cost to this Christmas Sale is £1 which includes a glass of mulled wine and there will also be a good tombola.

CHRISTMAS MEAL: If you are a Winchelsea Beach resident you are invited to the Christmas Meal on Friday December 11 in the Community Hall. Also please note that you will need to give your names to Judy at the Post Office by Friday December 4.
