World record attempt to raise awareness of endangered dog breed

Spaniels and their owners gather at Parham for the 2010 event

The SSA plans to set the record at this summer’s Sussex Country Show, at Parham Park on Saturday June 18 and Sunday June 19.

The gathering will take place in the Main Arena at 2pm on the Sunday, where a photo will be taken to submit to the Guinness Book of Records.

Back in 2010 more than 70 Sussex spaniels from all over the UK gathered at the event, but the SSA is already set to welcome more than 100 this year.

SSA Vice President Sheila Appleby said: “We have been delighted with the response to our appeal, which has really captured the imagination of Sussex spaniel owners. The endangered dog breed needs as much positive publicity as possible and we are grateful to the organisers of Sussex County Show for giving us the platform to promote the county’s very own breed.

“Ultimately we want more people to find out about this lovely dog so that they might consider it when they buy their next puppy.”

“The SSA will be exhibiting in its own dedicated marquee throughout the two-day show, with representatives on hand to promote the breed, answer questions and educate visitors on the history of this remarkable dog’s survival from the threat of extinction.”
