Youngsters show off film-making skills

BEXHILL'S De La Warr Pavilion presented its first ever Young People's Film Festival on Saturday, attracting entries from 35 budding movie makers from across the south-east.

The event was co-ordinated by award-winning film maker James Hobson, and the only condition was that those making films should be under 25 years old.

Their efforts were chosen to go forward for judging by members of the DLWP film club and eventual winners were:

Best documentary - Jake Nash, with Parkour Summer; Best Abstract Film - Jacob Cunningham, with Sunglasses; Best drama - Pradeep Shahi, with Password.

The festival has resulted from the Pavilion’s Young People’s Film Club programme, which has been running for the past three years and has seen more than 100 young people trained in movie skills.

Three of them have gone on to higher and university education in film-making, with James Hobson, 16, commissioned to make the De La Warr Pavilion’s 75th anniversary commemorative film last year.

During the festival, young participants were challenged to make a film in just 48 hours. The winners weere Harry Dixon and Amelia Lampitt, both from Claverham School, Battle.

Another feature of the event was a horror movie workshop run by special effects artists, allowing youngsters to get made up as ghouls and zombies.
