Bexhill on the up after resounding win

BEXHILL boosted their position in Division Two of the Sussex Cricket League with a resounding win at mid-table Pulborough.

A good all-round performance in the field and professional display with the bat meant Bexhill collected maximum points to jump two places in the table.

Pulborough were skittled out for just 134 and Bexhill reached the target for the loss of only two wickets.

"We bowled and fielded very well. Our catching was superb," said club captain Chris Topp who for "personal reasons" stepped aside to allow overseas player Josh McLean to lead the side, although he confirmed he would be back in charge for the rest of the season.

Put into bat, Pulborough lost both their openers with only 17 on the board before overseas player Rohit Jagota (31) and Elliot Cloy (24) put on 57 for the third wicket. But once this partnership was broken the Bexhill attack made light work of the rest of the batting.

"We got a couple of early wickets but then their overseas player started to look good until he chipped one to mid-wicket and from then we pretty much went through them," said Topp who returned excellent figures of 4-15 off 7.1 overs. Simon Bulteel (3-43) was the other main wicket-taker.

Lloyd Waughman (59 including 12 fours) and McLean got Bexhill off to a steady start in reply before the former joined forces with Malcolm Johnson (34 not out) in a stand of 81. Although Waughman fell within sight of the finish line, Ian May hit four boundaries in a brisk 18 not out.
