Bike ace gains prized cup place

MOTORSPORT talent Lewis Bridger faces a very busy year after gaining selection to the KTM Supermoto Junior Cup.

The Bexhill-based teenager was one of only 24 riders to get the call from an original entry of 160 which had to undergo a fitness test at the Olympic facility at Lilleshall, psychological profiling and a test day on a Supermoto bike.

The 40 applicants that made it through the initial stage were then interviewed and Lewis was informed on Tuesday that he was in.

The Supermoto Junior Cup is an exciting one-make race series which gives 14-16 year old riders the chance to shine on a level playing field (24 identical KTM 200SX machines) in one of the fastest growing sectors of motorcycle sport.

Lewis, whose winter testing has gone very well, faces a packed 2004 because he will also represent Eastbourne and Wimbledon youth speedway teams, tackle the FIM 80cc Youth World Championships and the British 125GP Championship. He is sponsored by GA Motorsport and Phoenix Motor Cycles of Bexhill.
