The visitors had a good start when home stalwart Dave Meagher lost in straight games to Mike Bush, but Bognor No4 string Pat Jones levelled matters when he took on Mick Greenway.

Jones took the first game with ease, only to lose the second just as easily, but the home player re-asserted his hold on the tie and ran out a 9-1, 2-9, 9-2, 9-4 winner.

Bognor suffered two 3-0 losses as Andy Parker went down 4-9, 8-10, 1-9 to Aidan Murray after a great effort in the second game, followed by captain Steve Carruthers, who lost 6-9, 1-9, 6-9 to Dan Seymour to give Lancing a decisive 3-1 lead.

No1 string for Bognor was Steve Enfield and he brought some respectability to the scoreline when he made short work of his match against Ross Twine winning 9-1, 9-1, 9-7.

Bognor took six points from the 3-2 defeat.

Both Bognor teams have a run of away games with the next Hawthorn Road match on Friday, February 18 (7pm) – details on 01243 865462. All Sussex League match details are on www.sussexsquash.org.uk
